I'm very big on movies and probably watch at least two or three per week. My movie collection is something I take great pride in, and, not to brag, I've taken a college film class. So I have a nack for taking in each little factor in a movie and judging it's quality. In the year of 2009, these are the best and worst movies I watched (surprisingly, all of which came out in 2009)
Best Movie Of 2009: Inglorious Basterds
While this movie didn't earn 5 *'s originally in my review, having time to digest it, it certainly still holds up with my praise. It's one of the few movies I desperately need to own on DVD, or even better, Blu-Ray now that I've got a PS3. If you love vengeance served cold, or basically anything Quentin Tarentino (same audience?) you need to see this movie. Brad Pitt as Aldo The Apache wants his Nazi Scalps! Honorable mention to Crank 2, Watchmen and Monsters vs. Aliens, all of which seemed like it was too niche-targeted. Yet Basterds wins? Yes. Yes it does.
Runner Up: I Love You, Man
Worst Movie Of 2009: Southland Tales
If you grabbed someone by the shoulders and shook them violently, screaming "write a worse movie!" no doubt, they could only respond "how?" Two and a half hours of you watching an all-star cast do seemingly nothing that makes sense. WHY WOULD YOU HAVE JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE BREAK INTO A DRUG-FUELED MUSIC VIDEO FOR A SONG BY THE KILLERS?!?! Not even worth using on Mystery Science Theater 3000.
