6 New Movie Trailers

JOHN CARTER - March 9, 2012

Avatar meets The Scorpion King? Maybe with a little Sleepy Hollow or Sherlock Homes thrown in? Crazy trailer, crazy plot, but it could work. It's Disney's take on an old series of books titled John Carter Of Mars, and I wouldn't be too surprised to either see this reach Pirates of the Caribbean success or bottom out like Prince of Persia: Sands of Time (which this film does bare a remarkable resemblance too. Apparently sword-and-sorcery is the "in" theme right now.)

SHERLOCK HOLMES: A GAME OF SHADOWS - December 16, 2011

I really wanted to like this film when the trailer started, but by the end I felt a little put off. This was really a case where less-is-more, because I feel like the film is going to rely heavily on it's action more than it's actual plot, and we just watched an extensive montage of all the best action scenes. Still might be a decent film, but I'm not getting my expectations very high.

HUGO - November 23, 2011

I hung my head in disappointment about the 3D-pimping, but wow! This movie really blows me away! I think the physical comedy of the train station conductor or police or whatever he is will play to one audience while the real dazzling visuals and amazing plot take everyone for a ride. This may have been based on the book The Invention of Hugo Cabret but it reminds me of the 1995 film Casper, which was one of my all-time favorite childhood movies.

FINAL DESTINATION 5 - August 12, 2011

Another case where less-is-more would have gone a long way. For a movie that sells itself based on the unique ways the victims die, showing me a multitude of the deaths would really hurt the film. Also, at this point isn't death just getting sloppy by letting all these dumb kids have predestination visions and letting them escape? Does death just like the thrill of the chase or something? At least they added in a new stipulation about killing someone and getting to live, that should provide interest to keep this film fresh.

THE THING - October 14, 2011

Just in time for Halloween! Though I haven't seen the original version of this remake, I've heard it's well renowned and have always been meaning to see it. If I have one complaint about this film is that I think it might lack some well needed subtlety and will likely go overboard on the special effects. Still might be a good horror film though.

CONTAGION - September 9, 2011

An all-star cast about the Super Swine Flu! Granted, they said Bird Flu in the film, but come on it's clearly based off of the recent Swine Flu epidemic! I was pretty lost during Matt Damon's freak-out about his wife, but it looks like it could be a really good film.
