Horrible Bosses Review

image from Amazon

Three best friends, Nick (Jason Bateman of Arrested Development), Dale (Charlie Day of Always Sunny In Philadelphia), and Kurt (Jason Sudeikis of SNL) work for horrible bosses. Nick's boss is a malicious bully, Dale's boss is a blatant sexual harasser, and Kurt's boss is a notorious coke-fiend. After consulting a criminal mastermind, the three come to the conclusion they have to kill each other's bosses in order to not have the crimes traced back to them through motive.

The all-star casting completely rules in this film. In the hands of lesser individuals, this film probably wouldn't have done all that great, but everyone was cast perfectly. I was particularly pleased with Charlie Day for bringing his A-game, and with Jennifer Aniston for stepping out of her usual typecasting.

My Highlights:
All of Jennifer Aniston's dialog, Charlie Day on drugs, and Jamie Foxx's explanation of his character's name.

Overall Rating:
I don't think the comedy style will resonate with everyone, but for at least their niche audience this film will be a golden classic for ages to come. I want to call it a guy-comedy, but I'm sure there are girls out there who really like Arrested Development and Always Sunny in Philadelphia. I also respect that some people don't. I saw Horrible Bosses with people who enjoyed the film and people who didn't, but I was under the impression a lot more people liked it than didn't. Since I was one of the people who liked it, I will award this film 4 1/2 *'s out of 5, or 9 *'s out of 10. A fantastic piece of cinema.

When You Should See It:
If you like epic comedies where all of the characters go on a crazy adventure with the intent of one goal, such as The Hangover or Superbad, and you enjoy the comedy style of Arrested Development and Always Sunny, then see this film immediately. If you hate all of the above, still give it a shot, but go in with lower expectations.
