I Love You Phillip Morris Review

Premise:
Steven Jay Russell (Jim Carrey) is your average middle class family man until he gets into a car accident and decides to come out of the closet and start living life. Unfortunately in his own words "being gay is really expensive" and he resorts to cons and frauds to make money until he's thrown in jail. But it's in jail he meets the love of his life, Phillip Morris (Ewan McGregor).

Standouts:
Amazingly enough, this film is based on a true story! Also, This movie really brought out a fun and silly side to Jim Carrey not seen since Liar Liar. Alright, technically, Yes Man was Carrey's awesome return to comedy, and Bruce Almighty was pretty good too, but still this movie reminded me of his performance in Liar Liar.

I knew I was going to have to sit through some dude-love in this film, but being desensitized by Bruno and the internet I thought I could handle it. Turns out, I was right. But I let my poor dear mother watch the film first and she had to turn it off after seeing the first sex scene. For those who are already about to dismiss this film because of what I just said, don't worry, it was only rated R, not X. It's all just humorously implied.

My Highlights:
The first sex scene was hilarious, but I also loved the slow-dance scene, and the last scene of the film.

Overall Rating:
I Love You Phillip Morris was a well-produced, well-acted, well-written film. The topic and scenes might not be for everyone, but if you've been desensitized over the years like I have, then it'll just be a fun flick with great characters. 4 *'s out of 5, or 8 *'s out of 10.

When You Should See It:
If you know ahead of time what you're getting yourself into, then I say go for it the next time you're looking for a comedy. If you know ahead of time that you won't be able to handle two guys macking, even though you know neither of the actors are actually gay and it's all done comedic, then go for a different comedy.
