Rant: Mini-Strategy Guide

Recently the video game Split Second went on clearance for $9.96 online over at Walmart.com. It also comes with a mini-strategy guide and a code for an exclusive vehicle. This sweetened the deal, and since I always wanted to give Split Second a try, I thought "why not put some money down and maybe it'll make a good review?"

Today is the day that I received Split Second in the mail. I haven't played the game yet, but I was curious to what this mini-strategy guide offered. I think I was expecting a lot like a small booklet. What I got was this 8 paged booklet that's thinner than the game manual!

What's in the guide? It's just little tips that you would normally find on a loading screen. For Example: "Short cuts make a difference, learn how they work and save enough power to use them." I thought this guide would actually maybe show me where the short cuts are, like every guide I've ever seen!

Now you might be saying, "Well it's not like you paid extra for this mini-strategy guide. What's your problem?" You're right, I didn't pay extra, but lets say it's release day. You can either buy the exclusive Walmart copy with the mini-strategy guide, or maybe get a $10 credit if you get it at Amazon. It's trickery, and I understand that's business, but I don't want this to become a fad. This is the first time I've seen it and Split Second has been out for some time now. I don't see this becoming more popular, though I also don't like the exclusive DLC stuff either, and that's becoming more and more popular.

Not a big rant, but I felt like it needed to be mentioned. Don't buy a game from a certain place just for the mini-strategy guide...

Unless they show a picture of it!
