Looking Forward To: Wreck-It Ralph
A first look at Pixar's upcoming animated film for November 2012, Wreck-It Ralph has hit the internet and it's possibly the best movie for the nerd market since Scott Pilgrim vs. The World. Wreck-It Ralph stars John C. Reilly as an arcade game villain who is tired of getting hated by gamers and constantly thwarted by the heroes. Ralph decides to abandon his own game and start game-hopping for a more suitable and enjoyable one, but is shocked to see the kinds of games that are out there today.
It's refreshing to see a big name company embrace the gaming community rather than demonize it, and I think/hope that's the direction we're moving in as society. As long as this movie doesn't end in a moralistic lecture about how kids should get outside and play actively more than sit indoors glued to their screen, I think it'll be great. Although I do worry that there is going to be a hint of that, I'll prepare for the worst and hope for the best, keeping the message as simple as be happy with who you are and love what you do. It's directed by Rich Moore thankfully, who is known for directing some of the best quality episodes of The Simpsons (Cape Fear, Marge vs. The Monorail,) and Futurama (Hell is Other Robots), so my expectations shall remain high.
