App Review: Asphalt 7: Heat
Asphalt 7 is the first game in the Asphalt series that I've played, and I didn't know what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised that every time I raced, I was racing on some very detailed roads. The graphics to this game are wonderful. The maps were so big, there were a lot of moments where I was shocked that a phone could play something like this. Maybe it's because I haven't played too many games on my phone, but I'm loving modern day technology.
This game has everything you could ask for: career mode, quick play, multiplayer, goals to complete, and a ton of cars/tracks to unlock. The controls are also great. You can choose from four different control settings - some have auto-acceleration, and some allow you to press down on the gas pedal. You tilt your device to steer (unless you choose the steering wheel control setting), and it works great!
I love driving the cars in Asphalt 7, but what's even better is the nitrous oxide. You can fill your NOS power bar by drifting, taking down other cars, and collecting nitrous icons during your race. Using your NOS when your entire nitrous bar is full causes your screen to become this neon blue outline that feels amazing. You can use your NOS before it fills all the way, but it doesn't compare to how it feels when you get the meter full first.
Money is also a factor in this game. Asphalt 7 will cost you $0.99, but you can also buy in-game money to purchase cars, car rentals, and upgrades. Now, don't worry, you don't have to spend real money. You can also earn it by completing races and collecting money icons during the races. You also earn experience points and stars, so you can level up and unlock more racing cups.
The multiplayer in Asphalt 7 can go online or locally. I played online, and had no problem connecting from my Gameloft ID. Multiplayer has all the settings you expect from an online game. It also features a mode called Asphalt Academy, which allows you to race on a course by yourself, trying to compete on the leaderboards. Playing online was a lot of fun!
Final Say: I'm amazed. Asphalt 7: Heat has giant racing worlds, beautiful graphics, great controls, tons of things to do and unlock, and best thing of all - it's only $0.99. This is a buy. The only reason you shouldn't get this game is if the file size is too big for your device to handle, but really you should try to free up some memory because it's great!
