Best Films Of 2012

2012 felt like a drudging year for films as we were living it, but in retrospect there were a lot of really fantastic films that set a high standard for 2013 to live up to. While in the past we've spent the first week of the new year naming the number one best film of 2012, this time we have to give the nod to a handful that were at the top of their class.

BRAVE

Perhaps the best non-rom-com film for the child and female demographic I've seen in years. I wasn't the target audience for this film, but I still enjoyed myself thoroughly and it made for a perfect date movie. Kids Movie of the Year!

CABIN IN THE WOODS

There's nothing like a good horror-comedy, and this one was smart as a whip. Meta to the extreme and bursting with originality. Everything in this film worked. Hands down, Horror Movie Of The Year!

ABRAHAM LINCOLN: VAMPIRE HUNTER

The title pretty much tells you what to expects and then rocks the gimmick like a hurricane. Sorry Steven Spielberg and Daniel Day-Lewis, I skipped seeing Lincoln this year for a telling cut from a different cloth, and this was Historical Fiction of the Year!

THE AVENGERS
The super-film that took 5-6 films to build and has nerds trembling around the world over the anticipated quality that could either make or break the comic book movie industry. Everything paid off in spades and left fans salivating for a sequel, making this Action Movie of the Year!

21 JUMP STREET
Hilariously over the top in all the best ways. Comedy of the Year without question, and what more could be expected from the writer of 2010 Best Movie of the Year: Scott-Pilgrim Vs. The World?

DARK KNIGHT RISES
All genre-specifics aside, Dark Knight Rises faced a monster of fan expectations, and it blew everyone's mind just as the previous two films in the trilogy did. As much good as The Avengers did for the comic book/film industry, The Dark Knight Rises appealed to a different type of crowd and was enjoyed by a more casual movie goer audience without the nerd-niche. We never reviewed this film, because what can you say about the Best Movie of the Year without just a one sentence line saying exactly that?
