Video Game Review: Flashback

Flashback is available on the Xbox Live Arcade for $10.

Flashback is an HD remake of a game with the same name. I'm not sure why it was called Flashback, and not Flashback HD. I'd like to mention that I've never played the original Flashback, and will be judging this game as if Flashback original never existed. Wait, I take that back, because you can actually play the original game inside this HD remake. So that's a plus to all you Flashback original lovers.

Where to start? I guess I'll just tell you that I wasn't a fan of Flashback HD. It just didn't grab my attention. The voice acting really ruined this for me. Every time I heard anyone talk I wanted to grind my teeth and stop playing. I would have preferred just text, and no voice acting. It was laughable at points at how bad it was.

Is the voice acting really the worst part of this game? Maybe. The rest of the game mechanics are just so bland, and boring. The controls were alright for the most part. I did run into some bugs that were annoying, like controls not responding, but this didn't happen too much. Also, the graphics are decent for this remake.

There is a level up system in Flashback, but I'm not sure if it did anything. Every time you leveled up you would get points to put into either accuracy, technology, or stamina. Like I said, it didn't really feel like I gained anything from doing this.

Final Say: I'd pass on this game. It's just boring, and the voice acting is terrible. It really sucks you out of the game. There's not much more I can say that's positive except that it was nice that they put the original Flashback in this game. Unfortunately, I didn't want to play it after playing the remake first.
